Senior Pet Care for the Golden Years

One of our canine patients in the office

Pets are considered "senior" when they reach seven years of age. In order to offer the best preventive care to our older patients, we recommend coming to see us for wellness exams every six months. This allows us to get a clear picture of your pet’s health and notice any changes quickly. Fast diagnosis is always the best way to find the most effective solution.

During your biannual exams, we will talk to you about your pet’s mobility, eating habits, and whether or not you’ve noticed any changes in their behavior or personality. We will do blood tests every six months to make sure everything looks good with your pet’s health.

POSH Program

Main Street Veterinary Clinic designed the POSH (Pets Over Seven Health) Program to help ensure that our senior patients get the best in preventive care. The most effective way to prevent a chronic problem is to catch it early!

The POSH Program includes a blood panel specifically designed with senior monitoring in mind. This senior blood panel includes the following diagnostics:

A black cat on a cat tree
  • CBC (complete blood count)
  • Complete blood chemistry
  • T4 (thyroid level)

We also recommend a wellness exam and a urine test (urinalysis) to check for kidney function, infections, and diseases like diabetes.

Discounts for Senior Pets

We want to do what is best for your pet, but we also understand that testing can be a financial strain. We want to partner in helping you provide the best for your senior pet by discounting the bloodwork (POSH) by your pet's age. A client with a seven-year-old pet will receive a 7% discount on all the POSH service, while the owner of a twelve-year-old pet will receive a 12% discount on the POSH service. The only requirement is that the service must be performed approximately every 6 months.

If you have a special senior pet in your life, call or text us or request an appointment online.
